THE 100 METERS OR THE MARATHON

Basic Scripture: 1 Samuel 13:4-14

Welcome to today’s devotional encounter with Jehovah Rohi, Jehovaah Jireh, Jehovah El Gibbor, Jehovah Shammah, Jehovah Shalom, El Olam, the Defender of His people from shame! Some years ago, in my country, a former Sports Minister, Chief Jim Nwobodo, was once asked why Nigeria never did well in long distance races. His reply was humorous but instructive:

Why should we spend hours chasing a gold medal, when we can win the same gold medal in 10 seconds?” What he meant was that a Nigerian will rather go for the 100 meters gold medal than go through the rigors of competing for over 40 or more kilometers to win a marathon gold medal. The spot community was thrown into shock then, but Nwobodo’s answers capture the mindset of many believers in their approach to life and ministry

Everybody wants the fastest and easiest way out. People prefer a last minute rush than long term and painstaking planning! The twin killers of success are impatience and greed. As 2017 ends, you must not be a victim of both. Saul never knew that Samuel was around the corner (1 Samuel 12:10). He offered the sacrifice because it was the easy way (shortcut) out. That shortcut was his shortcut to regret (Vs. 14). Be different! Why the hurry? Your Laughter is around the corner! Your ‘Samuel’ will soon arrive! Why the haste, self-pity or tears?

There is still a God that answers by fire! Wait for Him! Realize that: It takes time to build a cooperate work of art! It takes time to build a life! So, give yourself, your job, ministry, enterprise and your family the time they require to grow. Sometimes, the longest route may be your route to permanent victory. Tarry with patience! Hurry leads to sorry!

PRAYER POINTS: Take song of worship as led.
1.       Lord, help me to be patient in your appointed time. I refuse to wear the garment of impatience in Jesus name.
2.       Lord, as 2017 ends, let every plan of impatience, ANXIETY and deadly hurry be crushed. Lord, plant the spirit of laughter in my life in Jesus name.

3.       Pray any other prayer point(s) as necessary!
